Throughout the history of the Church, theologians debated an issue regarding the Blessed Virgin Mary: whether she was conceived without original sin.

In last week’s reflection, we stated that part of God’s ability to be humble lies in the knowledge He has of human nature.

“God’s humility” might seem a bit odd. If humility means knowing ourselves as God knows us, how can God be humble?

We have learned that sinful pride can be a great hindrance to a good spiritual life. It is caused by excessive self-love and a desire to be independent from God. In a sense, when we are prideful, we wish to be our own god, as powerful as the real God without any restrictions.

In previous weeks, we have uncovered the definitions of humility and pride. We can now look at how the two of them interact.

In past weeks, we have explored the meaning of humility. In short, it is the quality of seeing ourselves as God sees us.
