The Marian Shrines
12 Day Marian Shrines Pilgrimage featuring Fatima and Lourdes
May 2 – May 13, 2016
I would like to take this time to personally invite you, your relatives and friends to join us on this special pilgrimage during the Extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy!
Our pilgrimage begins in Portugal. Upon arriving in Lisbon, we will have an orientation tour of Lisbon, then continue to Fatima, the site of one of the most famous apparition of the Blessed Mother. On May 13, 1917, three young peasant children (Lucia, Jacinta and Francisco) received an apparitions of the Blessed Mother. She gave them many important messages and taught them the need for prayer. These apparitions continued on the 13th of each month until October 13, 1917. On that day the Blessed Mother performed the Miracle of the Sun. Today, Fatima is visited by pilgrims from around the world who search for and find the messages of peace left by Mary for the world.
We will leave Fatima and travel through Spain, along part of The Camino de Santiago (Way of St. James), a large network of ancient pilgrim routes stretching across Europe and coming together at the tomb of St. James in Santiago de Compostela in north-west Spain. We will also visit Avila, birthplace of St. Teresa, and Zaragosa, another important place of pilgrimage to honor Our Lady.
From Spain we will cross the Pyrenees Mountains to go to Lourdes, known to day as the most famous healing Marian shrine of our times. On February 11, 1858, the Blessed Mother appeared to a young French peasant girl named Bernadette Soubirous. One important aspect of the shrine of Lourdes is the miraculous water, first uncovered by Bernadette under the direction of the Virgin Mary and said to have a healing effect on many people. The “Miraculous Baths” are open year-round in Lourdes. Thereafter we visit the monastery of Benedictine Abbey of Montserrat and the famous Church of Sagrada Familia in Barcelona.
I hope you will join us along our own custom design pilgrimage route. It promises to be a rewarding prayerful and memorable journey for all!
Joyfully in Christ,
