St. Elizabeth of Hungary

Feast Day – November 17

Princess, wife at 14, mother of 3, friend of the sick and poor, Secular Franciscan (and now co-patron with St. Louis IX), St. Elizabeth led a full life in just 24 years.

But it was not always easy, despite her high position; for she was widowed at 21 and suffered mistreatment for a time by her in-laws. Instead of resuming a court position afterward, she embraced the material detachment taught by St. Francis in the spirit of the Lord Jesus and devoted her last years to caring for the sick after she had provided for her children’s education and welfare.
