St. Anne

St. Anne

Feast Day – July 26

The constant tradition of the Catholic Church gives us the name of Anne as the mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of our Lord, Jesus Christ. In speaking to St. Anne, we are talking about the grandmother of Jesus.

Anne, and her husband Joachim, to be sure are special persons in the Catholic calendar of saints. In the divine plan of salvation, Anne and Joachim were given special places in the chain of events that eventually led to the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem.

St. Anne is honored by the Church because of her selection by God to cooperate in the salvation of the human race. She gave birth to Mary, raised her religiously, helped her become the worthy handmaid of the Lord.
