On a grace-filled spring day in 2025, Fr. John, OFM, was ordained to the priesthood, a moment that marked not just the culmination of years of formation, but also the joyful beginning of a new chapter of service in the Church. Having entered the Franciscan novitiate in 2018 and made his Solemn Profession in 2024, Fr. John’s journey has been one of deep discernment, faithful formation, and heartfelt gratitude.

When asked what was in his mind and heart during the ordination, Fr. John responded with striking simplicity and sincerity: “I felt very much at peace.” Rather than nervousness or anxiety over the occasion, Fr. John described a quiet assurance in God’s call.
“I think it was just the certainty that this is God’s call for me that helped me remain calm and truly enjoy this moment of immense grace,” he said.
Along with that peace came a sense of challenge and humility. “I do sometimes feel that I’m not adequate to be a good shepherd to the people of God. But, at the same time, I know that God will always be by my side and will use me to be an effective instrument of His love to the Church and the world.”
This deep sense of reliance on God, paired with the joy of having walked the long road of Franciscan formation, filled Fr. John’s ordination day with profound meaning. “I also felt great joy having come this far—seven years after joining the friars,” he added. “I have learned so much throughout my initial years of formation, and now I look forward to sharing that with others.”

As of this writing, Fr. John is ministering at St. Jane Frances Parish in Toronto, a vibrant and multicultural community that celebrates Mass in English, Italian, and Vietnamese. Immersed in parish life and pastoral care, he continues to grow in his vocation through daily encounters with the faithful.
Fr. John’s gratitude also extends to the many people who helped make his vocation possible. “To all the benefactors who have made this journey possible, I share my sincerest thanks for their support. I thank them for their prayers, and I ask God to bestow an abundance of blessings on all of them.”
We rejoice with Fr. John and give thanks to God for his ‘yes’. As Fr. John begins his priestly ministry, may he continue to walk with peace, joy, and the confident hope that the Lord, who has begun this good work in him, will bring it to fulfillment.
